Matt Roberts

Matt Roberts Quintet - Matt Roberts (Trumpet), Matt Anderson (Tenor Sax), Sam Watts (Piano), Andy Brotherton (Drums), John Marley (Bass). Matt Roberts has crafted a quintet paying tribute to one of the all time great of jazz, Miles Davis. Arguably, no single artist has changed the face of modern music so profoundly, and so many times, as Miles Davis. He was more than a jazz musician: a cultural icon, known even to people who can't tell bebop from fusion. Matt Roberts is a great young trumpet player who dazzled the Leeds jazz auience over the last couple of years in many small group and big band settings. He graduated at Leeds College of Music in 2007 where he won several awards including the Sir John Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition. Since leaving college Matt has had the pleasure of performing with Norma Winstone, Kenny Wheeler, Sir John Dankworth, Mike Gibbs, Abram Wilson, Denys Baptiste, Conservatiores UK Big Band, 'Voice of the North' jazz orchestra, Tim Garland, Mark Donlon, Matt Bourne, Alan Barnes, Steve Waterman, Mark Knightingale, Issie Barrat, Frank Griffith, Gerard Presencer, Steve Waterman and many more. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a brilliant band playing for us - whatever else you see don't miss this very special gig.
